The Documentation Services is an active participant in the teaching, research and service missions of the University of Minho. Its resources and services are designed to promote and enhance all University programs, especially the University´s areas of excellence. In fulfilling this mission, the Documentation services selects, acquires, organizes, preserves, and provides intellectual and physical access to collections in a wide range of formats.
The primary purpose of the Documentation services is to adapt to the requirements of the university community and in so doing being able to provide more efficient and reliable service. By introducing new services and reinforcing existing ones, the documentation services aims at being a point of reference within the university community.
The intervention of the Documentation Services materializes in several areas. Some figures illustrate part of the activities undertaken by SDUM:
441.569 monographs, 358.306 periodicals and 20.031 audiovisual documents available in the libraries of the University of Minho, corresponding to 345.270 different titles accessible through the Library catalogue in 2017.
The General Library offer users 610 seated places and the UMinho Library in Guimarães offers a seating capacity of 400 seated places.
In 2017 the library system registered 123.712 transactions (loans, returns, renewals and reserves), undertaken by 7.222 library users.
In 2017 the library catalogue of the University of Minho registered 1.030.144 searches, the RepositoriUM registered 3.290.874 visits and 1.662.355 downloads; and the bibliographic resources available at b-on registered 799.417 downloads.
