The Documentation Services is an active participant in the teaching, research and service missions of the University of Minho. Its resources and services are designed to promote and enhance all University programs, especially the University´s areas of excellence. In fulfilling this mission, the Documentation services selects, acquires, organizes, preserves, and provides intellectual and physical access to collections in a wide range of formats.
The primary purpose of the Documentation services is to adapt to the requirements of the university community and in so doing being able to provide more efficient and reliable service. By introducing new services and reinforcing existing ones, the documentation services aims at being a point of reference within the university community.
The intervention of the Documentation Services materializes in several areas. Some figures illustrate part of the activities undertaken by SDUM:
449.823 monographs, 354.812 periodicals and 20.787 audiovisual documents available in the libraries of the University of Minho, corresponding to 350.787 different titles accessible through the Library catalogue in 2020.
The General Library offer users 622 seated places and the UMinho Library in Guimarães offers a seating capacity of 400 seated places.
In 2020 the library system registered 44.199 transactions (loans, returns, renewals and reserves), undertaken by 4.985 library users.
In 2020 the library catalogue of the University of Minho registered 382.925 searches, the RepositoriUM registered 1.325.577 visits and 2.296.476 downloads; and the bibliographic resources available at b-on registered 1.140.829 downloads.
